Hello & Welcome to The Homemade Pinup!

Who is The Homemade Pinup?

I’m Lauren, a twenty-something year-old seamstress living in Southern California. I have been sewing since I was thirteen, starting off with “historical costumes” (read: cheesy Renaissance Faire garb) before moving on to truly historical clothing ranging from 9th century Viking to 19th century corset-and-crinoline Victorian. These days, most of my projects are from the “vintage” eras: to me, that’s the 1920s-1960s. I have a particular fondness for the 1940s and the 1950s! My newest interest is the 1930s, which I’ve never delved into before.

In the past year, I’ve started to teach sewing classes to students of all ages. My focus in educating is to spreading the lost art of my passions: sewing and dressmaking. Our grandmothers could easily whip out a garment when they had a need, or darn the holes in their socks, or mend a tear on a favorite dress; we can regain those skills! I am a firm believer that every person should know how to sew a straight stitch and sew on a button, at the very least. I started this blog to help inspire and educate others on vintage sewing in particular. Heirloom techniques are a particular passion!

I would love to hear from you! If you have any questions or inquiries, please feel free to drop me a line and I will respond as soon as I can.
